HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Liceo Classico Statale Carlo Alberto is the heir to an ancient school of advanced studies founded in Novara during the XVI century. It took on the current name in 1865 after the declaration of the Unity of Italy and has been housed in Baluardo Lamarmora 8/C since 1973. In town Liceo Classico Carlo Alberto has always represented a school of academic excellence that allows its students to attend, successfully, any kind of advanced studies at university. Outstanding citizens of Novara studied at Liceo Classico Carlo Alberto. They have reached fulfilling and rewarding professional, scientific and civil results.
Liceo Classico Statale Carlo Alberto has had legal status and autonomy since the 1st of September 2000.

STUDENTS' WORKING EXPERIENCE
Students attending the fourth year canhave a temporary summer work experience.
The experience is both formative and guiding. It lasts four weeks, just after the end of the school year. It takes place at the civil service, local newspapers, or professional offices in Novara or nearby.
The students can verify their knowledge, competence and abilities. The experience helps them to choose what to study at University, what kind of professional and working life to plan. The experience facilitates the transition from school to full-time work.
During the experience each student is supervised and assessed by both a tutor from the school and the firm. If the experience is positively judged the Board of the teachers gives credits to the student.

STUDENTS' VOLUNTARY SERVICE
The Project is promoted and organized in cooperation with Agencies for social and health voluntary service, and with other upper schools of the town.It gives the possibility to experience a voluntary service with disabled, old people or minors. It helps the students to get a better social formation by being in touch with the social disadvantage and the associations that work on it
The project is divided in two phases:
1. An annual service that consists of two hours a week, for a total of 24 hours, to be done during the school year from November to April.
2. A summer service for a week in June. The voluntary service lasts for the whole day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m... During the week the students can meet and share their experience.
The activities of the centers are supervised by specialized staff and a teacher who coordinate and solve possible problems. At the end of the experience the students receive a certificate of attendance that can be presented at school to get formative credits.

STUDENTS' TRIPS AND VISITS
Visits and Trips enrich the school's curriculum and are part of the learning activities.
They are planned on proposal of the teachers of the class and approved by the teachers, the elected parents and students of the class and also by a further elected board of teachers, parents and students of the school
Visits and trips are also planned for sport activities, exchanges with foreign countries and the Comenius European projects.
 
FOREIGN EXCHANGES
There are exchanges with:
Great Britain: The School of St. Helen and St. Katharine in Abingdon.
The teacher in charge of the British exchange is Mrs.Loredana Brambilla.
France: Lycée La Colombière- Chalon sur-Saone.
The teacher in charge of the French exchange is Mrs. Federica La Rocca.
Germany: Ginnasio Amandus Abendroth of Cuxhaven.
The teacher in charge of the German exchange is Mrs. Angela Brusatori.
U.S.A. : St Mary Academy Bayview - Providence, RI.
The teacher in charge of the U.S.A. exchange is Mrs. Anna Maria Rampazzo.
The main aims of the exchanges are both cultural and linguistic.
The students live with their correspondents and attend the school with them.
Trips are organised to allow the guests to visit important towns and monuments.The whole class shares the experience.

GERMAN:
FIT 1, FIT 2, ZD (Zertifikat Deutsch) Goethe Institut of Turin.
The project " Deutsch macht mobil" is organized by the German Ambassy in Rome and the Association of Italian teachers of German Language.
EUROPEAN COMPUTER DRIVING LICENCE
In the first two years the students are given preparatory courses for the ECDL (Syllabus 4.0). exam

DRIVING LICENCE FOR MOPED
According to the law the Liceo has planned free, extracurricular courses to prepare the students for the motor bicycle driving test.
LIBRARY
In the library of Liceo Carlo Alberto there are about 13000 volumes among which a few hundreds are ancient and valuable editions.
The most ancient volume is an incunabulum of the XV century, containing the letters of St. Gerolamo. There are precious printed editions of the XVII and XVIII centuries, including a remarkable "Divina Commedia "dated 1578 and "Dialogo Sopra i Due Massimi Sistemi dell'Universo" by Galileo, dated 1632.
There are also first precious editions of the XVIII century, among which L.A: Muratori's Works and a translation of "Canti di Ossian" by Cesarotti.
MUSEUMS AND LABORATORIES
To practice what the students study there are:
A Physics laboratory
A Chemistry laboratory
A Biology laboratory
An ICT laboratory
A Planetarium
In the Physics Museum there are valuable historical machines for experiments on electrostatics, electrodynamics, optics, fluid-dynamics etc...
In the Museum of Natural Science there is a collection of minerals and of stuffed animals.
